CLI
The forme CLI: login, add, list and where the files land.
Free components install with npx shadcn@latest add, because they are ordinary shadcn registry items. Pro components install with the forme CLI, which authenticates first and reads the same registry format from an authenticated endpoint.
npx forme loginThe CLI prints a URL, opens it in your browser, and waits. Approving the request in the browser sends a short-lived code back to the CLI, which exchanges it for a session on your machine. Nothing is pasted into a terminal and there is no password to leak into your shell history.
Add a Pro item#
npx forme add ai-chatThe files land exactly where Free ones do, under forme/ in your components alias, with imports already rewritten to relative paths. From that point on the code is yours: nothing Forme ships runs at build time or at runtime, so there is nothing to keep in sync and nothing to uninstall later.
Everything else#
npx forme list # what you can install
npx forme add <name> # install one item and its dependencies
npx forme whoami # the account you are logged in as
npx forme logout # forget the session on this machineThe session is stored in your user-level config directory, never in your project, and never in a .env file you might commit.
See Pro for what the paid tier includes and Login for the browser side of the flow.
